William Blake: Songs of Innocence

The dark undertones of these poems is unsettling.  I know it’s meant to be, but still.  They’re all light and happy and then you stop and think and it’s just all so dark.  It kind of reminds me of how every nursery rhyme is creepy if a child sings it really slowly.  These aren’t the songs of innocence, they’re the songs of innocence lost.  Songs of experience come later, I know, but  even so, these poems don’t speak of innocence.
