I wanted to share a video through which I discovered John Keats’s poem, “La Belle Dame Sans Merci”. This is a reading by Ben Whishaw, a British actor.
It is an excerpt from the soundtrack of the movie “Bright Star”. I have not seen the movie and do not know if it is worth watching, but I thought the reading very interesting because it is very well read (he pronounces the title in the right way at least) and thus, enhances the rhythm as well as the melody of the poem. I don’t think that it does anything for the meaning of the poem, but it certainly can at least make you more inclined to look a little bit closer at the meaning.
For what it’s worth, the film competed at the 62nd Edition of the Cannes Film Festival (2009).
